Knowing is not enough. Awareness is the key! Immersion is the state!

Just knowing about om is like reading about how to ride a bicycle! Unless you reach a state, where you and the bicycle are one and you control the cycle, without consciously thinking about it, immersion has not happened!

Similarly, reading about holy men, studying holy books, being in company of holy disciples, going to temples and other places of worship, are all designed to immerse, connect with the universal vibration. Something that is not only to be known, but experienced and immersed in!

Need for this immersion

As we play our day to day roles in life, our mind creates its reality, of your good, bad, happy, sad, opinions etc. immersion in the ultimate consciousness brings clarity in every moment and the state of being jeevanmukta, which is the purpose of life. Where the state of mind is not based on motivation, affirmations, or any other mind tool, but is inherently clear, aware and sharp.

Universal vibration

The universe originated with a sound. A big bang, aum, ekakshar, omkar...almost all ancient civilisations and modern science recognizes that everything is energy, a vibration, a sound (as we can perceive it by hearing) a symbol of universal abundance itself.

Anahata naada

The seeker of the ultimate truth, goes within, not outside. When the connection with om is established, it manifests as anahta naada, the sound without an impact.

Anahata leads to higher awareness

Being able to hear anahata naada is not enlightenment. However, it is a significant progress maker, as you now have a tool to anchor your mind and be in a state of awareness at all times, even in sleep

How to hear anahata naada

A lot has been written about the anahata naada. There are many ways to reach here. Some need extensive sadhana, some are based on namasmaran becoming ajapajapa sohama and then finally om. I wondered if there is a simpler way to connect to this naad? A search of various techniques, practical experiments followed.

There were 2 questions.

  1. Can we experience this eternal inner sound within us in a simpler way which can be done by anyone?

  2. Can we connect to the universal abundance, instantly?

Let's follow a few simple steps.

  • Find a cool, quiet, secluded place in the house.

  • Sit comfortably on the ground with legs crossed in any asana. Or sit on the chair. do this practise early morning, when there is no external sound.

  • Get a pair of ear plugs, put them into your ears (available online generally in Orange color, tied with a string, in most medical stores), to cut out all external sound. Or close your ears with your fingers.

  • According to vigyanbhairava tantra verse 46, To hear the sound within, the two doors from which the sound (vayu) can go out of the body need to closed. The first one is obviously the ears. The second one, surprisingly is the rectum! Now pull your rectum muscles in. This stops the sound/vayu from going out, turning it in, making hearing in inner sound much easier.

  • Curl the tongue upwards and Touch the soft palette with the tip of your tongue. This is langhu khechari mudra, which silences the mind immediately.

  • Exhale and hold you breath while to try and listen to the inner sound. This is again a technique to make the mind silent.

  • Close your eyes and listen to the sound of your own breath. Be aware of your own breath. Listen to the sound of breath going in and out. This is fairly easy...

  • Now move your attention to hearing your own heart beat. Usually, we hear our heart beating, when we panic! This is different...just observe your heart beat...you can...with a little attention to hearing. If you are not able to hear the heart beat, keep your left hand on the heart, listen to the heart beats. Remove the hand and listen to the heart beats. Do this a few times to listen to the subtle sound of the heart beats. Heart beat is a more subtle sound than the breath. You are training your mind to hear the subtler sounds now. This can be done easily when the mind is silent and largely thoughtless. (The sadhanas are designed to calm the mind and make it thoughtless).

  • Now Move your attention to a sound that is in the background, always, eternal. This is not the breath. This is not a heartbeat. This is something else. A hum, a rhythm, something...This is different for different people! This sound may sound like a beep, or bells or any other sound, usually like many people chanting aum, each person starting and ending at a different time, a u and m sounds all mixed together as one chorus sound.

  • Be in the state as long as you want. Repeating the steps. You will get it.

Awareness is the key

Remember that you are not concentrating on anything. You are just listening. Relax. In order to receive, you have to be still, do nothing and just observe. That's all!

You may realise that this sound was always there with you...it is actually since eternity, as everything in this universe is a vibration, a manifestion of vibration. Nothing else. Be aware of this inner sound.

As you are now aware of this sound, you can listen to this universal sound, by just drawing your attention to it. That's all.

When can you hear anahata naada

You can do this while writing, eating, talking, listening...no need to meditate at all! Just feel the increased awareness, alertness, as you focus on the sound.

I have experienced this sound in various states of eating, drinking, intimate moments, meditation, being sick with fever, on the hills, in the basement etc. and have come to a conclusion that it is independent of the state of body or the mind.

You can do your own experiments to confirm this. Its important that you check this for yourself. Your experience is your reality. Mine can serve as a guideline.

Your call also be aware of this sound in sleep! As you dream... The more the immersion, the more louder the sound is.

Hearing from the right side

Some texts mention hearing this from the right side, by focusing on the right ear. I have not given much attention to this aspect as my intention to just to be. Not apply any effort or a meaning to this state.

This is not a medical condition.

This is not a medical condition where there is painful ringing in the ears. You will hear the sound, when you are aware.. And not hear it when you are not aware. This is a simple test.

What if you are not able to hear the anahata naada... It usually means that you need to imbibe the om within, silence the mind. Our culture relies of purushartha, the effort not prarabdha, fate. Some methods are.

  • Chanting Om loudly for some time. Then chant in the mind, then listen. Start with 10 mins each phase. Total 30 mins.

  • Chanting for longer duration for each phase.

  • Chanting in a place designed to reflect the vibrations helps.

What is the frequency of this naada.

I downloaded a frequency generator app and found the frequency to be around 7500 hz... Which you can also simulate by this app on Android.

Om chanting

The inner om will resonate when you chant Om with your mouth. At the right tone, at the right nasal frequency. That is when you know that the

Benefits of anahata naada

  1. Higher awareness of roles, emotions, mind, how it works, its games.

  2. Higher intuitive powers. You will know what to do, without analysis or overthinking.

  3. Less and finally no fear, not even the fear of death.

  4. No aversions.. Whatever comes is accepted.

  5. Connecting with people of similar frequency.

  6. No attachment to goals or aversion to loss, however full attention to action with clarity

  7. Calmness. Even when angry for a role linked desire, back to cool state after the purpose of anger is over.

  8. Activates the third eye. The centre of intuition.

  9. Easier and faster to do kriya yoga, as the number of oms are not to be counted. You can count the dots, but not a straight line! Ones who know kriya yoga will understand!

  10. Total concentration. No distraction. No random thoughts. No fear and no worries.

  11. Freedom from the effects of grahas, fate, horoscope etc. they work when you are in default frequency state. Once you vibrate at highest universal om frequency, they have little effect.

  12. Reduced sleep duration. Down usually to 4 hours instead of 8. That is for to less thinking, giving mind rest even during the day.

  13. More energy as the mind is largely thoughtless... You can think when you want, but it's not automatic.

  14. Less drive towards outward pleasures of eating sleeping mating and surviving, as the soothing experience of the inner sound is always within.

Effortless

Once you get this sound, you have to do nothing else, just be aware, just be immersed in it. That's all. Its so deceptively simple!

I express my sincere gratitude towards adi Shankaracharya, composers of Upanishads, sandeep maheswari, madhav my sound yoga guru, yogesh my shankhnaad guru and Swami vishwananda, with all the gurus in our lineage of nath sampradaya.

What happens with constant awareness

Instantly, you are immersed into the true nature of the sound. Of abundance. Of infinity. Of eternity. Of connection. Of consciousness. Of a permanent state.

The awareness, the alertness, the intuition, the consciousness, is at a different level...now

Be in immersion. Be the one. Where the act of listening to the sound, the sound and the listener of sound, are all one!
