Common ways to pronounce om:

There are two common ways to pronounce om.

Aum:

It's aum separately. In this way, the vibrations are felt in lower middle and upper part of the body. This is how one says in a form of chanting. This method is good for yoga sadhana, which one can see in this video from sadguru from isha foundation.

Om:

Another way a single sound om. Where the m is with lips closed. This is how we way usually in mantras.

Tongue position:

In both the above ways, the tongue is at rest on the base of the mouth.

Monotone om:

Om is supposed to be a monotone, a single sound, still how is it that aum and om have two sounds?

Something felt missing and needed a deeper contemplation. I came across this thought in a space of thoughtlessness a few days back.

Om with laghu khechari mudra:

I just realised that there could be yet another way, where the tip of the tongue touches the soft palate and is curled up.

This is a special mudra, as the tongue is under the pineal gland now, exerting a very light pressure upwards. In mudras it is called the mahamudra.

(There are 3 other higher stages of khechari mudra, which are not for normal sadhakas, and need advanced yogic practices, which are not relevant here, as the focus of on the om sound).

Please look at the tongue position in stage 1.

Now, Chant Om with laghu khechari mudra and see for yourself, what happens. How is the sound? is it nasal? Are you able to create the nasal sound, as the dot associated in the sound om, signifies?

Ending:

when the breath ends, the sound ends..there is no closed lips and mmmmm at the end.

Frequency:

You can very the pitch of the om sound. Lower frequencies will impact lower chakras and higher ones will impact higher chakras.

Inhaling:

Inhale with your mouth open. Inhale slowly to avoid generation of a whistling sound. Prolong the inhale.

Nasal sound:

This will also produce a nasal sound on its own. And the om will be deeper.

Nirvana pranayama:

When you make the mouth opening smaller and purse the lips, the cheeks vibrate and you can feel the vibration in your face...a different experience.

Holds:

Hold after inhale

Hold after exhale

And extend the durations slowly.

No hand movements. No matra. No visualization. No chanting. Only breath. Without any movement. No movement of even lips.

Pace:

After doing with extended duration om chanting, do om chanting with normal breathing without any effort to prolong the breath. Experience both.

Single sound:

Difference from aum sound

It is not a u m heard seperately. It is a single sound.

Difference from normal om.

The lips are not closed in mmm now. They are always open. As the breath runs out, the sound stops.

There is no beginning, no middle and no end. It is timeless sound.

Frequency experiments

You can experiment with lower and higher frequencies and check the vibrations. You can start with lower and go higher like sa re ga ma and go higher chakra by chakra.

In this method, The sound is low volume.. Constant and the mouth shape is maintained in o shape. This is the om in its actual sound form.

Check the following

  • You will feel better in a low volume.

  • Your lips will not close.

  • Your sound will be nasal.

  • Your frequency of sound can be varied.

  • Your tongue will be in laghu khechari mudra.

  • Your can breath in without moving your tongue. Let it remain in the laghu khechari mudra throughout.

  • You can do this even in the group om chanting activity.

  • As you get the right frequency, you will feel your tongue vibrating sightly and hitting the soft palette.

Third eye focus:

Keep the focus between the eye brows, as you say om, this activates the third eye, which is nothing but the activation of the pineal gland, the gateway to Satya or knowledge.

Alakh niranajan

Move the focus from anahata to saharar and back with each om chanting.. First up and then down. This is a technique by gorkahnath. This leads to a state of alakh Niranjan!

When you chant Om, use the carl tune app or swarmeter app. Set the reference to 432 hz.

Say om in f.

Then skowly inscrease the frequency all the way to b.

Do this in one breath

In the next breath, come down from b to a to f.

So this many times.

As you say om, you will feel the vibrations in the respective chakras.

F heart

G throat

A third eye

B sahasrar

ree

Get the tones right first

Then feel the vibrations. They will match!

Doing trataka with animisha yoga with om chanting.

Focus on the parts of the flame... tip of the Black part is anahata. Blue is third eye. And yellow is saharara. Another intuition.

Resonating with inner om:

If you are able to hear the inner om, you can match the frequency of the om with laghu khechari mudra with this sound to get resonance.

The inner om sound is high frequency. Laghu khechari om will be low in volume as you attempt to match it.

Blessing:

To resonate beautifully, in sync with the universal om sound and merge with it eternally is this . May you be blessed with this state.
