As i sail in grand princess cruise ship, off the coast of alaska, i get time to be in silence, be with self, connect, reflect and note ideas that come up.

I read a lot of positive and some negative news about our pm, modijis meditation in kanyakumari, over the last weekend. This prompted more study on

1. Why now

2. Why at this place

3. Why meditate

Place:

Every place has its own vibrations and energies and activates certain thought processes.

For example Swami Vivekananda meditated at kasardevi temple near almora, which has bear zero geo magnetic field, the two other places being makapichu and stonehenge.

Meditating in specific temples, by the lake, by the river, by the glaciers in alaska, all of them, have their own unique experiences. I have jotted down a few of these in my earlier blog of the 5 day yatra.

Kanyakumari.

This is a shaktipeetha, or the place of the divine mother, where all oceans meet. This place is surrounded by the sea at all sides. It is here that Vivekananda got the inspiration for his life's mission, for the upliftment of Bharat. It is exactly in this place, that Modiji got the inspiration for crafting the next 25 years of Bharats future. One was in 1892 and this one is in 2024! This place is blessed with imparting a vision to the seeker.

What is meditation:

Of the many articles on meditation and samadhi, i found this the most comprehensive and interesting. This is a must read for everyone, who practises Yama and niyamas, the foundation of yoga. You will realise and appreciate the importance of each of the 8 steps of yoga, as you read this.

This intuitively explains, how to move from gross to subtle.. From a form to formless. From saguna to nirguna. From idol to the Atman.

My shankhnaad guru yogesh says, meditation is not done. It happens. I have myself experienced a step away from nirvikalp samadhi, which I am not sure, when I can come out of. The goal of sarva loka kalyanam does not allow me to get into this stage. This is a similar direction which vivekanda got from his guru.

I just keep the awareness in the anahata naada to connect to the self and be aware. Beyond this is the leap of faith. A flight into nothingness... Into nirvikalpa samadhi .

The deep meditative state of nirvikalpa samadhi, can result in one to leave the body, ultimately, which vivekanada did, in the final moments of his life. But to be a light to enlighten others life, to dispel darkness, was the mission he was on.

Giving:

This is the link to a wiki page on Vivekananda and his meditation.

"Narendra wanted to experience Nirvikalpa Samadhi (the highest stage of meditation) and so requested Ramakrishna to help him to attain that state. But Ramakrishna wanted young Narendra to devote to the service of mankind, and told him that desiring to remain absorbed in Samadhi was a small-minded desire. He also assured him that one could go to "a state higher even than that" by serving mankind, because everything is God's own manifestation. This dictum of Ramakrishna deeply influenced Narendranath."

This text is an excerpt from the wiki article. Makes perfect sense. Every soul is on a different mission. The scale and timeframe of the mission can vary. Some create jobs in the business they run, some create charitable institutions like hospitals. Some provide for the family.

Kanyakumari resolve of 1892:

Vivekananda reached Kanyakumari on 24 December 1892 and meditated for a three-day stretch, from 25 December to 27 December, on a large mid-sea rock, on aspects of India's past, present, and future. There he reportedly had a "Vision of one India" and took the resolve to dedicate his life for the service of humanity. This resolve of 1892 is known as "Kanyakumari resolve of 1892".

This is an exact from the same article.

Events after 1892:

Swamiji went to Chicago after this, making him world famous for his speech at the world Congress of religions, where he opened his speech with "bothers and sisters of America", and the rest is history.

You can listen to this inspiring speech here...

He then founded ramkrishna mission, that runs hospitals in 1897. Five years after the meditation in kanyakumari. He devoted his life to the upliftment of people.

Significance of Modjiis meditation:

It is not a random act that Modiji mediated at the same places last weekend! In this blog, modiji has unveiled a 25 year vision for Bharat ( not India) in this blog. It a well thought of act. To make Bharat a vikasit desh or a developed nation, from a developing nation.

This is not impossible, considering that there are three things happening in Bharat right now

1. Digital revolution

2. Young demographics

3. Political stability

This is a unique combination.

Read this...

He wrote this after a 45 hour meditation at kanyakumari after he took a flight back.

A person who has no immediate family is devoid of attachement. Perhaps, a person in politics must not be a family man? To avoid accumulation for future generations? Two examples come to my mind. Yogi and modi.

Another way is to know that

1. having a family is one of my roles. And i am not the role!

2. And the role that is for larger good, takes precedence. Family over self. Society over family. Country over society.

This realisation is enough. As the mind keeps getting impacted by external factors, keeping this realization is difficult. But not by immersion in anahanta naada, that connects to om enternally.

Action:

Read the links in this blog. One about Vivekananda and meditation, one on samadhi and the next on the vision of Bharat by modiji. And post your comments.

Blessing

May the place where you are right now, be the kanyakumari of your life. To create objects, ideas, events and things of massive value to humanity. To be a blessed soul for giving to others, not just by charity, but by knowing about the god gifted talents and channelising them for the good of all.
