The statement appears like a paradox...
Here success is in the context of achievement of your goals. Who does not want to fulfill their desires and fulfill them faster!
Here the context of goals are the ones that are set with clarity of purpose, value addition, not impossible goals (you know what they are for you!). These are not goals given to you by someone. These are the goals you own.
Full involvement in Action and no attachment to result:
Being attached to the result occupies the mind into the future. If the result of is achieved, there is a desire to get more. If it's not achieved, there is a emotion of anger, jealousy etc. The underlying thought behind the attachment to results is usually fear, as the uncertainty of not achieving the result appears real right now. Greed will come when you succeed, not during the action. In thinking about the past and present, the mind (emotions) is actively involved. Action is here and now, which needs full awareness to be in the present, to be fully involved and commit all mental, spiritual, emotional resources to the act. In the present moment, the mind is not involved. Awareness takes over.
As Explained in bhagwad gita:
This is explained very well in the shloka in bhagwad geeta. "Karmanye vadhika raste ma faleshu kadachan....". Here it is not told to act, by ignoring the goal, and leave things to fate. But it's told to act for a goal, without being attached to the goal.
The goal of all spiritual practises and paths is to silence the mind. To go beyond the mind. This is possible only when complete awareness of action in the present is without attachment to results. Results are accepted as they come and action continues.
This is not fate. Fate is pre decided. It takes power away from action. Following "Dharma" is not religion. It is simply doing what is right for the role you play, whether it's a father, a ceo, a son, a husband...whatever. While playing the role, play for the goal, without being attached to the goal.
Source of attachments:
Attachment comes from desires, which originate from falsely identifying one self with the role. The true identity is only consciousness. Everything else is based on roles. Once this distinction is clear, roles are seen as they are, temporary, not permanent, and the attachment to roles, and their goals also vanish in a moment.
This is just like an actor who does many roles in the movies. But the true identity of the actor is not the role. It's the actor.
Realising the true identity:
Leaving aside faith, let's explore the nature of the true self. Everyone is awake, sleeps and Wakes up again. This is natural cycle. When you are awake, your senses and mind, both are active..When you dream, senses are inactive, but mind is active..in deep sleep, both senses and mind are inactive. Now the question is...who wakes you up from deep sleep to take you into the dream state and then into waking stage. There must be someone, who is awake, active even in deep sleep. This is the answer. This is consciousness. Eternally awake within.
Once this is clear, all other roles also become clear. The associations of mind become clear and the attachments are dropped in an instant.
You will need the duration of time and effort of introspection to identify the roles and drop the attachments, depending on clarity you have currently.
Some people renounce the world and take sanyas. What they are doing is, in effect making all the roles nil. Hence attachment is also nil. This is one way of doing. The other way, is to know that roles are temporary and true identity, our consciousness is real. Thereby dropping attachment to roles. The second method is more practical in the day to day world for people like us and is sufficient.
Each role of ours comes with a responsibility, a dharma, which needs actions to be taken. We have dependents like family, companies that need our constant support.
Staying in the state:
To stay in the state of awareness, the simplest method is by anchoring to the aum sound. This is the key. The eternal sound of Aum keeps you in the state always.
Otherwise, knowing about consciousness is one thing and keeping it in awareness at all times is another. Aum makes this possible. This method of eternal aum sound is given in another blog.
Faster success:
Not being attached to goals, but being fully involved in action, makes you fearless, you will see things as they are, will be open to feedback, as you are no longer attached, will be sorted, take action, utilise all resources with abundance mindset, act with awareness in aum state and accept whatever result comes and continue the journey.
May you get into state, act as per your dharma and achieve all your goals, faster!
Going further, let's explore some typical attachments that fall off on their own, once the identity is clear and eternal awareness is set with aum.
Attachment to life:
Being healthy with a good lifestyle and clinging to life in old age, being dependent, are entirely different. In the first one, there is full involvement to being active. In the old age, there is not much contribution, consuming resources and clinging to life. Acceptance that its time to leave this body, as consciousness is eternal and body was the cause of all the roles, sets one free to gracefully embrace death, when it comes. There is no struggle, no fear, no regrets. Just acceptance.
Attachment to things:
Some people are attached to things like house, car, favorite furniture etc. In a large time scale, anything and everything in the universe was created and will be destroyed..nothing is permanent. Once you realise this, your eternal consciousness, which is permanent, will not be attached to anything temporary. This does not mean you don't care for things..it only means that you are aware that one day, they will cease to function or exist, and you are ok with it. You will joyfully be with them as long as they are with you. When it's time to part with them, there are no regrets, no emotions, just acceptance.
Attachment to relationships:
Relationships are dependent on a physical body and the role that one has. As relationships involve two minds, which are inherently not constant, so relationships continue to be volatile. As long as they are adding value to both, they are beautiful, loving, trusting. When they don't add value they start going dead...The active role of "giving" in a relationship comes when there is no attachment and selflessness. It's not about being possessive, it's about setting you loved ones free.
Attachment to experiences:
Attachment to good and bad experiences shape our current state with lot of biases. Looking forward to good experiences and recalling good or bad experiences, changes the state of mind. It's the mind that experiences, not the true self. This comes with awareness. Learning from them, enjoying them, while being open to trying new ones, is being detached in true sense. Be free from experiences.
It is clear that attachment is the cause that is slowing you down, stopping you from leading a fulfilling life, resulting from false identification of roles of the mind which appear real.
When attachment is dropped, passion is unleashed, true love blossoms, without any expectations. This is the state of awareness of vigyanmaya kosha and bliss of anandmaya kosha. Together, they are a manifestation of nirguna and saguna brahman.
Leave attachment..just accept.
Act with awareness.
Be in abundance.
Be in eternal Aum.
