I was looking for a quick relaxation breathing technique, without the use of hands, which can be done anywhere anytime and is without sound. Simpler the better.

Chanting aum has this soothing effect is known. However,

There are many instances, where I can't chant aum in an audible fashion. It could be office, restaurant, or any other public place.

Liz, my dear friend introduced to nirvana pranayanirvana or pursed lip breathing. Liz has opened yet another connection with universal aum sound within. 👍🏼 Thank you so much liz.

Process.

Inhale through the nose. Breath into the abdomen. Not in the chest.

Exhale through the mouth, making the shape of the mouth, as you blow a candle. This is called pursed lips.

Exhalations are slow and take double the time of inhalation.

Don't hold your breath.

Repeat. You feel calmer, fresher. Do it for five minutes.

This can be done sitting or lying down. So very easy to do anywhere.

References

Not many references on the nirvana pranamaya. Found a few as given below.

This is the link to the Video on pursed breathing, which is the same technique.

Benefits.

One. increased blood oxygen levels. Really useful in today's world where everyday we have new respiratory challanges with pollution and COVID!

Two. Calming and soothing effect. My observation is that it decreases high blood pressure in a few minutes.

This is opposite of smoking.

I realised that Nirvana pranayam breathing pattern is opposite of smoking. Imagine what they are doing to themselves when they smoke! A point to ponder.

Aum connection

Nirvana pranayama has the same mouth shape or pursed lips, as when i chant aum. While doing this pranayama, i silently chanted aum, and connected to the eternal aum sound within. This was a triple combo. The relaxation and freshness i feel is ultimate. i can't loudly chant aum many times. But, i can do this silently. Anytime, anywhere. Amazing.

Making this a part of day to day life.

I have put an hourly alarm 10.24, 11.24 and so on at odd times, to do nirvana pranayama for a few minutes to keep me relaxed. I am pretty intense mentally when i work, throwing bp parameters off balance, which i can feel. This definately works for me to calm down quickly.

My prayer for all.

Let everyone in this universe be peaceful, abundant, aware and accepting with silent aum, audible aum and internal aum.
