Powers on the path
On the path to the ultimate freedom, one gets powers of intuition, manifestation, control over others minds, sometimes control over elements, in varying degrees.
Sri m and creating a rudraksha on tv!
Sometimes, this happens on purpose, sometimes on its own. There are numerous examples of siddhas producing things out of thin air. See the video of Sri m which is on camera.
There are videos of satya saibaba producing vibhuti from thin air, necklace and rings etc. Our guruji, swami vishwananda, who imparted the kriya yoga to us, gave blessings of being an om chanting organizer to me, has created objects like rings and idols too. This is a Vidya or a knowledge that comes by learning a technique under a siddha guru.
Everyday Prasad
When i was discussing this with my mamaji, he told me an interesting story.
In BHU more than 50 years back, there was a scholar, who has written many books on tantra etc. Every day after his Puja, he used to take out a seasonal fruit from his asana and give to the people as Prasad. One day, a mischievous friend of mamaji asked for a mango in December, to check his powers... He was given a mango, and asked never to come again to his house.
Sant dyneshwar
There is a recorded history of sant dyneshwar, riding on a flying wall, to meet the Yogi, changdev who lived for more than 1400 years! See the video link to view this clip.
Long life
Saints like telang Swami, have lived in Ramkrishna paramhans time, for around 300 years in varanasi. Extending life by yogic powers is nothing unusual. There are many siddha yogis in Himalayas who have lived for hundred of years.
Our gurus
Our own guru, gulabrao maharaj, has many documented incidents of appearing at two places at the same time, saying the vedic richas which are unknown and many more.
Specific vidyas
There are specific vidyas and processes that have a defined purpose. There are many instances of yagyas being performed to get even a son. The one performed by line king drupad to recieve drishtadhyumna and draupadi, being one of them.
There are many devis, for example for excellence in signing etc. Which impart a specific kala or art form.
Yoga, Yantas, Mantra, Tantra.
There are specific techniques combining one or more of these to get accelerated results. As one progresses ahead, one gets on a path as guided by ones satguru.
The sequence of 5 states is as follows.
1. No Mind state. There are no thoughts here. There is no seperate identity. This is semi samadhi state. This is the self realisation that there is in fact, no separate self anymore.
2. This is the state of being blissful. Aware that everything is a single consciousness. For Most of the people the journey ends here as they dwell in the duet of vaigyanamaya and AnandMaya koshas. This is the Purna samadhi state.
3. Awareness of everything state. Here one knows everything about everything as it's happening right now. The distance does not matter. This also Transceds the time. Here everything from the beginning of time to the end of time is known. One becomes trikal darshi. Sage ved vyasa was one of them.
4. Control over elements. The 5 Elements of creation are under control. You hear many stotras where someone became a mountain, planet, a star, a galaxy etc. It's nothing but manifestation... In this form, the life span extends to billions of years!
5. Merging with the consciousness while retaining the energy form. This is sanjeevani samadhi of sant dyneshwar at alandi. The only one. Which is confirmed by many saints. Everyone elses energy has left the place after some time of taking samadhi. Sant dyneshwar is still there in energy form, when after almost 600 years!. It is my fortune that i have one in a billion opportunity of being in a sampradaya where he is our gurus gurus guru! A tradition of natha sampradaaya, which traces its lineage to lord Shiva himself.
There are two ways to look at at these powers.
Accepting
Accepting the powers as they come, as they are in the service of well being of all. In this case, just the intention is enough, which comes by intuition, not by a personal desire with a motive.
Chasing
purposely striving towards these powers by doing a specific process. Receiving of astras by chanting mantras is mentioned in ramayana and Mahabharata. Being historical texts, with many astronomical evidences, as explained by Nilesh oak, there are perfectly believable in it's original form. One wonders, what was the purpose of getting these powers.
Usage.
The answer is right in front of us in the same texts. The powers were only given to a select few, who had great control over the mind, never to be used in a fit of revenge or anger. If used, one becomes cursed like ashwatthama... Who directed the brahmastra on the unborn child of uttara, his mental balance lost completely, towards the end of Mahabharata war.
Protection
Protection of people from evil minded people is a common theme of use of these powers. There were never used for selfish purpose.
Devas and rakshsas.
My understanding is that while devas are tuned for sarva loka kalyanam. Rakashsas don't care about others and trouble them. Both have more or less equal powers. But the intention is different. You can compare them with 5 principals of satya ahimsa brahmacharya, asteya, aprigraha, within, which Control then mind, vs kama krosha mada lobha Maya, the 5 enemies of the mind. Devas and rakshasas are actually within the mind itself. One who transcends the mind, goes beyond devas and rakshashas. Beyond the mind, there is nothing.
Role of satguru
In almost all the the kathas, gurus have imparted the knowledge to the disciple. When to give what and how much is decided based on the non attachement developed by the shishya. Guru may or may not be in physical form. The State you are in, attracts that type of guru to you. It is your luck, good Karma from the past that you get a true guru, instead of ac fake guru. Its like finding a diamond in a coal mine.
Guru shishya and chamatkars
In guru shishya relationship, sometimes guru displays his powers only to a select few, as have to progress on the spiritual path. Guru has the power to alter the sequence of your past karmas, make you experience the pain in a dream, instead of wakeup state etc.
Nightmares
If you are getting a night mare, it's your past karma playing in your sleep and giving you pain. You are lucky, it is not happening while you are awake. You should be thankful to get a nightmare! This is a different way of looking at it! Both the dream and wakeup state, the mind is active. Only in deep sleep, it does not exist...
Karma, rebirth, moksha etc.
For the jeevanmukta, mind does not exist. For everyone, who is not, life is as real as a movie playing on a screen. The jeevanmukta knows, it's a screen, which is real and always there and the movie is the projection of the mind, nothing else.
Ashta laxmis.
There are 8 laxmis, each signifying a certain wealth.
Ashta Laxmi. Goddess Lakshmi is revered in Hinduism in various forms, including the eight forms collectively known as Ashta Lakshmi. These forms include Adi Lakshmi, Dhana Lakshmi, Dhanya Lakshmi, Gaja Lakshmi, Santana Lakshmi, Veera Lakshmi, Vijaya Lakshmi, and Aishwarya Lakshmi.
Laxmi is not only about wealth. It is about riches of the 8 types.
Recently, with Sudarshan, i had the bhagya of taking darshan of one of the most ancient and almost forgotten mandir in kashi. This is given in the blog on kashi here
Attachement to powers.
The moment, the person feels, i have the siddhi, using which i can do something, he gets into a trap. It is the desire to do something, that is a trap.
Billi mat palna. Don't get a cat!
There is an interesting story here. A babaji was asked by his disciples, for his last words, as his end was near. His disciples were listening intently for words of wisdom. He said. Billi mat palna. Means, don't keep a cat! Everyone was confused. They then approached a senior disciple, who was smiling. He explained. Babaji was a sanyasi. He used to only have two lion cloths (langots) as his possessions. He used to wear one and put the other one for drying after washing. There was one problem. A rat used to come and nibble holes in it. He had a desire to solve this problem. He got a cat! To feed the cat milk, he got a cow. To feed the cow, he got some land to grow grass. To take care of all this, he got married! So the last words! Very wise words. Billi mat palna! He got into the same samsara while fulfilling one desire as a sanyasi! We have so many desires!
Can powers gained be lost?
There are many documented instances, where warriers like karna, yogis like vishwamitra and siddhas like durvasa have lost the powers either partially or completely.. The common thread in all these is that this happened when the mind was overcome by lust or anger, being the most common. It simply implies that the person has descended from the duet of self and blissful koshas to the triade of mind energy and body. Obviously the access to the higher energies were lost.
Curses and boons.
These are energy transfers that alter the state of energy of both reciever and giver. The energy state usually decreases for the giver and increases for the reciver. The increase in the reciever can be on the positive side or negative side. Based on a curse or a boon. Again this makes a difference for the reciver, with desires. One who is free of attachement, has virtually no effect.
Effect of bad words.
Often we see that the people who utter bad words have a miserable time and the ones who are at the recieving end have a good time in life. Bad words are said with lot of energy. They are not a curse, which is given by a siddha. They simply transfer the evergy from the giver to the reciver. So if anyone has cheated you, take action. Don't think and utter bad words, as the other person is getting more energy and you are losing it, without realising it. Its not about the words, it's about the intensity with which they are said, that matters. The intensity is energy. That's all.
Jeevanmukta State
The one who is jeevan mukta, free from the mind, who knows, it's a role I am playing here, it's not me, is free from the attachement of siddhis of having and retaining them automatically. The ability of observe ones mind, see it's emotions, in inner silence, not only gets the right siddhis at the time and even if they don't, it does not matter. There is no attachement.
Sarva loka kalyananam.
There is no greater love than self love. Manifestation of the universe is the self itself. Hence the goal of sarva loka kalyanam is by default. Kalyanam can also mean ending a life, like Rama did for vali and ravana, which was for larger good. This was done with absolute still mind, not in a rage. Usage of powers for sarva loka kalyanam is the key.
Sadhana in today's context.
We live in the material world. Any sadhana done with the sole intention of being non attached to the powers resulting from this sadhana, and for sarva loka kalyanam, manifests very fast. There is no need of any power for the self, as it is in jeevanmukta State! Over many years, changing continuously, this translated into the prayer given below...
Prayer.
Blessed by satguru, acting as a chosen medium, with sincere gratitude, I transfer the eternal infinite knowledge, bliss and energy from the abundant universe, for giving prosperity, happiness and well-being for all, through mission one million associates by giving substantial value consistently through strategic innovation, while being in eternal sound of aum and divine music to graciously receive the rewards of health, wealth and happiness for me, my family, my associates and all the beings in the universe.
Blessing.
May you be free from the attachement of siddhis, not be amazed by its magical powers. But be ready to receive and direct it towards the well-being of all everyone. May you imbibe this prayer as yours too and live it every moment.
