The festival of light and colours:

Holi festival is a powerful night to manifest your dreams, desires, wishes as the cosmic energies are perfectly aligned this night!

A unique combination:

Holika dahan on a purnima night with full moon, followed by a play of colours on the next day, is what is commonly understood by Holi festival. This is a unique combination, not seen in any other festival.

Exploring the deeper meaning

Other than the stories around the Holi festival, let us explore it's connection to the self, it's energies, the human system.

Five elements

The five elements, associates with five chakras and colours are given below.

Earth. Mooladhara. Red

Water. Swadhisthana. Orange.

Fire. Manipura. Yellow.

Air. Anahata. Green.

Space. Vishuddhi. Blue.

Bathing in the elements.

Just as we take bath in water, which is commonly understood, we also take bath in the other 4 elements, if it's in our awareness.

Earth:

Bhoomi or Earth. The first chakra, the earth element, represented by Gulala, in red color, the color of the root chakra. This is the seat of smell...manifested by applying gulala to everyone. With love. In earlier days, Holi was played with red or dark pink colour. The other colours were added later. Immersing oneself in gulala, is bathing in the earth element.

Water:

Varun or Water. Represented by second chakra. The water element. This is manifested by putting water sometimes mixed with color on everyone. With love. Immersing oneself in water, is bathing in the water element. Earlier days, Holi was celebrated as a dry holi. Water got added later on to the festivities.

Fire:

Agni or Fire. This is manifested by holika dahan a day before playing colors. This is nature's energy manifested as fire. This is like taking a fire bath. Where the heat is felt near a large fire nearby.

Air:

Vayu or air. Drying with air when wet with water or in presence of fire. During playing holi, air dries us... This the seat of aum sound in the heart. (This air bath, and it's associated freshness, is felt more prominently, when you are near a water body like Lake, river or sea). air bath, by the evening breeze, near a fire is a different experience.

Holika dahan:

In Holika Dahan, Earth element, fire element and air element, all three are present.

Manifestation time:

The visual of the full moon in the sky and fire on earth activates both sun and moon channels within. It is here that for you, the time stands still...The manifestation that you do in this state, accelerates. It is this combination that activates the fourth chakra, the seat of love, the seat of attraction, the heart chakra.

So when you are at the Holika Dahan, you can chant the manifestation mantra like om kleem Krishnaya namah and steadily gaze at the fire. This is explained in another blog...

Playing with colours

In playing colours. Earth element, water element and air element are present.

Two elements are same, one changes. During Holika Dahan and playing with colours.

Space element.

As the chakras get energized, one by one,

Akasha element, the seat of the fifth chakra also gets activated with mantras and om chanting. The silence. In space there is no sound. Nothing at all..

Om chanting:

Practising shank naad, om chanting, fasting, meditating, group om chanting are all recommended today for maximum effectiveness.

Light

The light from the Holika fire, illuminates the sixth chakra. The method to do this is to gaze at the fire with half eyes closed and without blinking. The image of the fire then appears at the third eye chakra.

Then comes enlightenment. Only light and pure light. This is the gateway to gyana or knowledge of the self.

Blissful state

This final stage is the one of blissful existence where everything is one, with the same consciousness, taking forms of time and space.
