Saw the movie just now... There are many opinions, reviews etc on the movie.

The movie provoked a lot of questions. Why is this happening. How to stop it. Is there a larger pattern? So many thoughts.

This post is not a review...I see it as a pattern, where young girls were mis guided by certain people. The pattern is similar for recruiting terrorists, getting young people addicted to banned substances, enrolling them into protests and causes, etc. This could be for boys as well. The pattern is similar.

What is the pattern.

  1. Locate a person who is not attached to family, culture, values and whos fundamentals are not clear. Such people are very easy to identify in conversations.

  2. Weaken the persons founding beliefs by questioning the old beliefs, breaking ties with family and friends. Cutting down communication channels.

  3. Purpose an alternative belief, as the person looks for support. Offer support in all forms. Emotional, money, etc. To seem nice.

  4. Entrench the new ideology firmly in the mind of the person.

  5. The person does not consider any other idea. The new idea has taken firm hold in the mind.

  6. The degree of control can keep increasing with time. Ultimately, making the person a slave of the new way of thinking.

Let's come to the point.

What can we do? So the Kerala story rather the pattern, does not repeat in our homes.

As Parents we

  1. Educate kids, clear the fundamentals of the self, roles, dharma, 4 margas and how will it help lead a fulfilled and successful life.

2 Speak to kids in the native language. Culture is not English. It's in native language. English is a language for business, not family talk.

3 Let kids question and experience the learning. Without giving any bhashan. Provoke their thinking. Let them seek the truth on their own.

4 Let kids be fearless and let them share and express their thoughts as friends. There is nothing to be ashamed of. Family is always together. That's all.

5. Bharat and it's people are world class, amazing, innovative, kind, cultured and are second to none. We are not inferior. We are on par.

Now about the story.

It's not just a story it's a pattern.

I saw the movie more as a pattern, rather than a specific story. The story is the manifestation of certain factors. The same factors can create many stories.

There was a few insights that struck me as i come out of the movie.

Factor 1: loss of Cultural glue.

The cultural glue that binds families and society together has come loose. This leads us to the Kerala story.

A similar situation unfolds in Europe as the culture is destroyed as the family system itself is destroyed.

The root cause of culture loss is the systematic destruction of the gurukul system by British who wanted to enslave us. For ten generations, two hundred years, gurukul system was not prevalent in India. It is still not.

If you thought that gurukul system was only for Brahmins or only taught holy texts, you are mistaken. There are so many British propaganda still entrenched in our minds. It's unbelievable.

At the very beginning, the true nature of self, difference between role and self, dharma or doing what is right for the role was taught. The respect for different paths, philosophies were taught.

It was not taught that any Varna was superior. There are instances of kings from all varnas. Gurus from any Varna. In fact our spiritual guru, Shri gulabrao maharaj himself was from shudra Varna. It does not matter at all. Only the ability matters. Merit. That's all.

Once the true nature of self is clear, the universe is a manifestation of self. This is our culture. Hence so many gods, so many mountains as rivers and mountains divine.

This is explained in the first ovi of dyneshwari.

Aum namoji adya.

Veda pratipadya.

Jai jai swa samvedya.

Atmarupa.

Ganesh Vandana starts after this in the second ovi. Not in the first one.

This simply means. I bow to the first one. The one about whom Vedas explain, hail the one, who is known by the self, who is self!

One who understands this, understands everything.

Our culture is all about going inwards. Never going external.

Bharat is the culture where the supreme energy has taken human and other forms to set examples. These are avatars like lord Rama and Shri Krishna.

Today, the philosophy is missing, the culture is missing, the maturity is missing. And missing is the transmission of these values to the next generation.

Rituals, that don't make much sense, when not understood, as there are few who can explain them, become a cause of doubt in the minds of the young ones.

Just eating good food, rituals, pujas are not culture. Culture is about clarity of dharma, without fear of greed of after life. Being without attachments, but with full involvement.

I could clearly see that girls were did not have a clear knowledge of the culture of bharat.

In our culture, many people don't eat non veg and don't drink. If it's not tempting, it's ok. But if it tempts you, why not tap into the inner intoxication of the self? There are many methods to do this.

Factor 2: Outsourcing of thinking

Most people don't think. They either act impulsively or think only short term. This leads to the Kerala story.

I could not see any instance where the motive of the other person was questioned even though there were enough patterns visible to the girls.

They trusted to much, too early and got trapped.

Factor 3. Defend. Don't attack.

The ideologies proposed by anyone, should be subject to intense scrutiny. Both ways. We are not in the business of defence. If you defend, you have to win every time. If you attack, you have to win only once. This is a life lesson. So when someone questions your ideology, you can and should question theirs. Bharat is a land of debate and accepting the ideologies that are convincing.

I could not see any dialog questioning the beliefs of the questioner, when the girls beliefs were questioned.

When Derogatory remarks about Hindu gods were passed, there was no cross questioning about beliefs of the questioner! Amazing.

Factor 4. Family Communication breakdown

Kids after teens are more like friends. They have to share their ups and downs with family, who has to support them. The concepts of social Pride, family pride, etc come after the safety and security of our kids. A clear dialog based, not just on, how are you, i am ok. Is needed.

Kids no longer then depend on the new friends and strangers for support. It's always family first. That's it.

A rather long post, but the ideas kept flowing.

Blessing.

May your family avoid the misguided pattern ( in the context of Kerala story) and emerge as a strong foundation of sanatana Dharma, with all 4 purusharthas of dharma artha kaama and moksha achieved with abundance. May the eternal aum be with you.
