Today is Akshay tritiya, one of the most auspicious days in the calender. It is said that anything started today, is sure to succeed. Let's examine some aspects of this unique day.

Astrological Significance of Akshaya Tritiya

On Akshaya Tritiya, the Sun coincides with Aries while the moon is posited in Taurus. It is the third day of bright half Shukla Paksha of Vaishaka month of Hindu that is in April – May. It is also believed that the Sun and the Moon are in the brightest form on this day.

Astrologically, Akshaya Tritiya is said to be the ‘brightest day’ of the year. It means Sun and Moon are in their best dignities, such that they emit maximum light. Moon reflects the light of the sun and it only emits maximum light when it is opposite to the sun. Both the Sun and the moon are supposed to be ‘brightest’ or well situated by having their exalted dignities and thus shines the brightest from their respective signs of Aries and Taurus.

We can hence conclude that both sun and moon are in their peak state today.

Yogic interpretation of sun and moon elements within ourselves.

Sun represents time and moon the mind. When they "merge", time itself comes to a standstill. Whatever is manifested, rapidly accelerates to reality. This is the Yogic interpretation in brief.

The process of sun moon meditation.

Close your eyes are sit comfortably.

In the heart region, imagine the sun. A bright sun. Yellow sun. This represents the time.

In the heart, imagine a moon. A full moon. Cool and white. This represents your mind.

The sun and moon slowly merge into each other. This is the state when the mind and time merges.

At this stage, set an intention and leave it free into the universe.

This subtle step is very profound as it implies that you have no attachment to the intention. This is where most of the people fail. They are so attached to the intention, they have fear and greed associated with it. So the attachment to the result is so great. They are not willing to accept, whatever way it turns out to be. They only want it to happen their way. This is attachment. This is bondage. This is not freedom.

This meditation was taught to Shri Ram by vasishtha rushi. As per the historical records. Being a simple process, you can do and experience it too.

Significance of doing this process on Akshay tritiya.

When done on a normal day, this process is very effective. Imagine when it is done when the sun and moon are

the brightest, any intention set today, becomes a reality much much faster.

People think it is starting a new work today that is auspicious. In fact, just having an intention and leaving it free is what is the key. Actual work can follow later.

So think of the next new project, next new asset, next new house you want to get ....

Most people think of intentions to fulfill their desires. How about having a desire for the good of all living and non living entities in the universe, too?

Intention free of attachments

How to leave the intention free into the universe? Let's explore this further.

Every intention or desire is attached to a role. Like a father sets an intention to save a certain amount for his family. A mothers intention is to see her daughter score well in the exams. And do on.

The moment the realisation comes, that the intention is attached to the role and not the true inner self, there is no attachment to the intention. As the role is not "true" (self) the intention is also not "true". (In the sense of self). One can not be attached to things which are not true. It's that simple. You only have to get it. That's all.

Does this mean, that we don't take any effort, when we set an intention? Not at all. Being fully aware, being fully involved in the moment of taking action towards fulfilling the intention is automatic, as the two primary emotions of fear and greed are gone now.

This is what is described as nishkama karma. Doing without desire or attachment to the end result.

On the auspicious day of Akshay tritiya, may you wish for whatever your role desires. Just leave it free. Try the process given above. Let the universe bless you with abundance, awareness and acceptance.
